Astrobiology

Astrobiology is the scientific study of the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe. It combines aspects of biology, astronomy, and planetary science to explore the possibility of life beyond Earth. Astrobiologists investigate extreme environments on Earth as analogs for potential extraterrestrial habitats, examining how life could survive on other planets or moons. The field encompasses the study of potential biosignatures, the chemical and physical conditions required for life, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). Astrobiology seeks to answer fundamental questions about whether life exists elsewhere in the universe and what forms it might take.
