Space Debris

Space debris, also known as space junk, refers to the collection of defunct man-made objects in orbit around the Earth. This can include spent rocket stages, defunct satellites, fragments from collisions or explosions, and micrometeoroids. Space debris poses a significant risk to operational spacecraft and satellites due to the high velocities at which these objects travel, which can lead to potentially catastrophic collisions. The accumulation of space debris has become a growing concern as the number of satellites and space activities increases, leading to challenges in space traffic management and the sustainability of space operations. Efforts are being made to mitigate the creation of new debris and to find methods for removing existing debris from orbit.
